I got the Pentax K10D in March 2008.

Since then I have a shuttercount of 22050. Thats an average of 186 pictures/day. Or, if you will 5,1 rolls of film per day.

At my local camera store a roll of TMAX 100 cost roughly 4.5€. Meaning since I got the camera, I would have spent 2757€ on film. And about 7200€ on developing (just picked a big development companys prices here).

Thats a total of 9957€.

I spent about 1200€ total on all my equipment and the K10D.

I say, THANK GOD there is digital.

Now, have you factored in the price of hardrives for storage? Don't forget... it only takes one drive crash to lose all your PICs.

Acctually, I am at a very very very low percentage of saved pictures. Wink. And I do make backups of what I save. Smile

I have more than 35000 jpg on my hd in just 20Gb
I keep the preview from the raw files
They are 1936x1288, take about 350kb each and are good enough to print a 13x18cm
All the photos are backed up on a external WD mybook
I prefer to keep a maximum of shots in jpg and a few in raw
When I review a event after 1 year it seems me always I have to less pics
I cannot imagine keeping 1 or 2 shots of a happy days or holidays
Maybe I should use my camcorder more as kansalliskala propose

I regularly do HD cleanups when I have the time, and always make backups of the photos that I care much about.

Yes, I was saving way too much before. I throw out a ton all the time, not necissarily bad pictures. But I've started to think "Ok, this is a nice flower and a nice pic, but do I really need it in 400 different angles?", and then I delete 399 of them Wink. I try to think as if I was shooting with film and only save the ones that would have made it in the film days. Which is a low percentage, I shoot alot when I do, because it costs me nothing.

But I always save the DNG and if I postprocess it, a TIF aswell of every shot. And that adds up. I have some monster TIF files of panoramas that are like 500mb. Luckily I am also a computer geek and have almost 2tb of diskspace. Very Happy
