Anybody knows the hole (drill dimension, pls. in mm) I need when I want to tap a 1/4" VNC (tripod socket) thread into it?

5.1mm to be exact, but 5mm is fine.

The thread is 1/4 Whitworth or 1/4 UNC ( not VNC ) The difference between Whitworth and UNC is so small that it makes no difference, but UNC taps are probably easier to get.

I'm pretty sure my Zeus book says 5.2mm for 1/4 UNC. But I'm about 900 miles away from it at the moment so I can't check. I don't have Whitworth taps, so I've always used 1/4 UNC without problems. As Lloydy says, there is almost no difference in the thread.

5.1 for Whit' and 5.2 for UNC. Or 5mm will do. Wink
