A Colleague of mine got the new 5D in the office today and i made this very fast comparison of the noise on High ISO.

5D Mk2 with 70-200 2.8L set at at approx 90mm @ 2.8
vs
Nex-3 with Contax G Sonnar 2.8/90 @2.8

Raw files are converted with dcraw to tiff and then exported to 1024 with Picasa.

5D

ISO 3200

ISO 12800

Nex
ISO 3200

ISO 12800

and 100% crops

5D

ISO 3200

ISO 12800

Nex

ISO 3200

ISO 12800

As a conclusion: I like better the noise of 5D.. the difference is not that big but still ..it looks better.and the viewfinder is ..wow. Shocked

The Sonnar looks sharper to me than the L zoom - it doesn't have lightning fast AF but looks better Wink.

Wait until you have seen the noise at ISO 3200 of both the Pentax K-5 and Nikon D7000. The 5D MkII is really a low light machine (at least in my view).

perhaps i am incorrect, and if so i apologize in advance, but it seems to me that to have a meaningful comparison one should be using the same lens at the same settings on each cam, no? in my experience, i get differing levels of noise with the same cam/iso depending on the lens used...
