I realize this is more for the repair thread, but I might get more traffic on here. I hope that's okay.
As some of you may know, I have a lot of lenses that need cleaning. However, most of them can wait.
I really need a good cleaning service for my newly acquired canon f/0.95 lens. It has some edge fungus that needs to be taken care of ASAP as I'm in process of buying a mirrorless Sony and an adapter for it. I have heard of DAG, but I wasn't certain if they only do conversion services. If they could help, the reference would be appreciated. Or if anyone has any experience using any other preferably professional cleaning service for their 0.95, it would be so appreciated.
I am very eager to get it cleaned and get the setup completed so that I can use the lens
Cheers and thanks |

I can't give you references as the professional I have been using for some time has just retired. However, in searching for someone to replace him, I came across this specialist who has excellent references.

Steve, you're awesome as always!
That's exactly something I am looking for. That looks pretty promising, I will contact them and see how it feels.
I'm more concerned about quality of work than the price. |

Your humble servant sir.
From what I have read this is a family operation, husband and wife team. Every reference I have seen in two different boards has been very positive.
I haven't tried them yet as the Canon rangefinder lenses I have all have very limited haze, none worth spending money on yet. _________________ Steve

Well, they responded very quickly, which I'm a big fan of.
They said $120 for a Complete CLA. Doesn't sound too bad, considering I paid $500 for the lens. I just hope the fungus will all come out, but regardless, it's luckily rather isolated on the edges. 2 month turnaround, but they said they have rush Option that takes a week at no surcharge?
I think I am gonna go for it, after I give myself a day to see if anything else pops up and if I still feel good about it.
If I do, I will let you know how it goes.
Update: they can also clean my Alpa lens for $80. Not sure if it really need it, but had just enough haze that it cannot be dismissed. It's not exactly Jenstract prices, but for occasional upper echelon lens repair I believe this might be a good find you have here Steve. |
