I have been trying to remove the frontal beauty ring of this lens to adjust the infinity focus, without success. The ring consist of two pieces, is made of plastic and just turn in either direction without unscrewing. The plastic is quite soft, so any intent to use a screwdriver to force it out will result in an ugly dent. Does anybody know how to remove it?. Thanks in advance

Javier

Hi, I have the same problem.

So how do I remove the ring? Can I just force it of with a knife or something, without breaking the tabs?

Don't want to turn my 44 m-7 into an unknown helios...

I have found a photo of the 44m-7 frontring.
http://www.southerncape.co.za/recreation/photography/lenses/helios/mc_helios-44m-7_58mm_f2.php
And a description:
The lens is very easy to disassemble and, more importantly, reassemble. Just note that the front bezel is a clip-on plastic ring. Wriggle a thin screwdriver under it (from the centre, taking care not to scratch the lens) and gradually pop it out. And remember to calibrate the aperture.
Seems like the tabs would not break so easily.
I am going to take mine off now, may the force be with me.

I protected the lens with a few layers of a thick cloth and tried a small screw driver and a big screw driver and a knife.
No movement.
Then I found that the front ring of my Helios 44m-7 was screwed in.
I could just screw it off.

I guess not everything you read on the internet is true...

And the screwdrivers left some nasty mark on the front element retaining ring, where the black layer is gone and the metal is chipped

The glass is not scratched, fortunately. I guess I will paint those marks black.
