I got the Zenit Helios-44-2 in March and tried to master the typical varying diaphragma, so different from Nikon-lenses.
On the Nikon D50 there is no light metering of course, so Sunny 16 is at order.

Some older pic's from my 44-M. I've adjusted the colours on the 'bolts' and 'Cochran' pictures because the very bright sun saturated the colours in such a way it wasn't accurate, I hope that my adjustments are reasonably faithful.
But there's no sharpening or trickery. Wink

The 'gate hinge' must have been wide open because the DOF is very tiny, but it's sharp!

All at ISO 200 with a Pentax K10 and hand held.

Nice shot - the highlight bottom right is distracting though. Wink

A few from today as I wandered around Shrewsbury in glorious sunshine with the 44 M on my Pentax K10.

I love the 'death ray' on this one, but I wonder what caused it?
The sun was over my left shoulder and the flare appears to be coming from the shady side and from a point that is weathered and dull copper. so it must be a reflection inside the lens from a pinpoint reflection from the chromed spherical head that is actually the finial on a newel post of some fabulous railings outside a house.

Shrewsbury is the birthplace of Charles Darwin and the local youth groups did some graffing in honour of his 200th birthday.

Sundial on the market hall.

The market hall.

A very old and historic church, where Admiral Benbow is buried.

It's a lovely old town which you should try to visit if you get to the UK, or live here already.

The Helios works well, none of these pictures has had any PP other than a slight crop.

Did not see the death-ray @ first Lloydy, had to look more closely. Nice shots except you need to level the ground in the last one. Wink

Here are some of my 44-2s from Yesterday.

Revers, those were straight out of the camera and my Pentax K10 has now developed the usual viewfinder lean. Sad

But it's easy enough to fix so here it is again along with a few others that I've done a bit of PP on.

My 5 cents in here. I just could not resist when I saw Zenit-E + Helios-44-2 for 10 EUR locally. All shots here wide open. I was pleasantly surprised with sharpness from f/2.8.

This thread helped me allot in building up my manual focus lens collection so now it's time for me to return the favour and post my own snaps of my

a few days ago I 'finally' bought myself a Helios, a quite beaten up copy of a 44-2 in a store for 10 Euro, used on Pentax K-x:

Very nice, the_edge. I especially like number 3. I wonder if number two might be better with more contrast - or did you intend for it to have a soft look?

These two were taken with 44M-7 which I later sold but for the life of me I can't understand why I did, doh

Thanks Smile all of them are straight out of the cam, I liked them all so no processing necessary.
