The perfect late autumn sun certainly helps, but the lens is a keeper for sure!

Thanks guys, appreciate your kind words!

Impressive!

Which Helioplan is this? 40 or one of those for enlargers?

I must have missed the answer to this question.
Which Helioplan lens are you using for these lovely images?
OH

Klaus: What camera are you using? I was so impressed with the sharpness and colors (and your photography) that I looked for one, then gave up when I saw the prices. Just this evening I stumbled upon one on the bay which had only minutes to go. It was listed as Heliopan, thus maybe didn't get much attention? Anyway, I got it at $23.50. Sending it directly to lens guy for CLA. Hope I get close to your results. Serial number 920160, which makes it 1949 or earlier if I'm not mistaken.

Congrats. Usually I use my Lumix GH1/2

After initial disappointment, I'm going to give mine another try. I presume you used an extension ring... of what length?

Klaus, what different between coated and early uncoated version Helioplan?
Color rendering, flare resistance, lack contrast etc...
Serial number 1100338 exacta version - coated or uncoated?

Another question - Primagon 35/4.5 vs Helioplan 40/4.5

And, if you know, similar questions about Trioplan 50/2.9 - coated and uncoated exacta version

Sorry, no time to dig all this out. The one I used here was a coated, later one.

If you don't see a red 'V' on the name ring, it is uncoated. Here is a coated Helioplan 40/4.5 with blue coating https://flic.kr/p/dU2aVt .

I would rate my Primagon over my Helioplan. Trioplan has more interesting bokeh and is also quite sharp - and of course, faster.

I got one of these at what I think is a pretty good price recently (65 USD). Hopefully I will get a chance to share my experience. I have not had a chance to process the photos yet.

OK here are a couple.

the crop

and crop.
Klaus always makes lenses look really really good but this time it IS the lens. So if you see one of these definitely snag it!

Great sharpness. Did you use an extension or crop?

PostPosted: Fri Apr 20, 2018 12:13 am    Post subject: Reply with quote

These were on the a7ii with exakta to ef and ef to nex helicoid. They might have been closer than minimum focal distance of the lens but if so not by much. The 1st photo in each is just a resize and the second in each is the 100 % crop. I was quite impressed with the sharpness of the lens. For a 1950s era dialyte (I'm guessing here) it is quite a sharp lens.

I have an Exakta mount version. I can't get very close, so tried an extension but it git me too close.

I am not finding the helicoid EF to exakta adapters on ebay right now but I think I paid 35 or so for it. I also bought one in m42. If you can find one they are very useful. I like to use them with my DKL mount lenses as they have a terrible MFL.
