Does anyone happen to remember the H mount? I recently bought a Hanimex 300mm f/6.3 mirror lens but when I received it I found it had a 47mm screw thread instead of the 'normal' 42mm. I suspect Hanimex was reselling Tokina 47mm screw mount lenses and relabeling them as an H mount but haven't been able find any confirming info. I've been asking on several different forums but so far the H mount remains a mystery, remembered in name only. You can see the lens here: http://www.m42lens.com/m42-lens-database/390-hanimex-mirror-lens-300mm-f-6-3

Welcome, Robert.
I can't help you with the H mount, but I've quoted your link so it will be visible.

H-mount was a mount similar to T-mount but not compatible with it. You needed an adapter ring to mount it on a camera:

There is an adapter on Ebay that can apperently convert it to m42. Then you can convert that to any mount you want it on.

Thanks for the bump. Haven't had a chance to use the lens due to work but wanted to show it, hence the link.

Exactly. The H mount is 47mm, the T mount is 42mm. Tokina also had a 47mm screw mount so I am assuming Hanimex resold the Tokina lenses under their marque and changed the name of the mount to H-mount. Haven't found any supporting evidence other than the screw mount size being identical.
IIRC, Tokina sold the 47mm screw mount around '63-'65 to compete with Tamron's T-mount
Thanks for the link. Hanimex apparently had adapters to M42, Exacta & Minolta available. Fortunaately, I was able to fashion an adapter to K-mount from parts in my junk box, so I can mount it on my K-70 easily.
Thanks, Robert |

The heritage cameras blog page (link above) implies that the 47mm mount was a hanimex thing, presumably commissioned from tokina. What we do know is that its not just found on hanimex's but on other rebrands of the classic tokyo koki lenses of the 1960's - Cunor, Palinar etc _________________ pentax ME super (retired)

Ditto, the 47mm mount is seen on many other importers lenses. Especially so in the US I think. Hanimex never had much presence (not none, but less than many others) in the US is my impression, going by frequency in US eBay. It was more of a Britain and colonies thing. _________________ I like Pentax DSLR's, Exaktas, M42 bodies of all kinds, strange and cheap Japanese lenses, and am dabbling in medium format/Speed Graphic work. |

Question is are different 47mm threads compatible? T-mount and m42 aren't because of different thread width's despite having the same diameter. But that may have been to prevent people from directly mounting them on a m42 mount camera. _________________ pentaxian |
