It's a common lens and a cheap one.

f4, no PP.

I'll go for a common Zeiss, the Tessar 50. Or.........you've found a Chinon that's OK ? Wink

Not a Chinon! lol

Otherwise, you're sort of on the right track.

cheap tessar and very common, let say Industar 50?

PostPosted: Wed Jul 17, 2013 11:49 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

Again, in the ballpark. Smile

Ian,

Close focus as it is, not so easy... Excluding this I'll bet for a Pentacon 50/1.8,

Cheers,

Renato

Hi Renato.

Sorry, not the Pentacon.

I thought the bokeh on the left was pretty much a giveaway.

PostPosted: Thu Jul 18, 2013 8:39 am    Post subject: Reply with quote

H44?

The Helios is famous for its swirly bokeh, but when it isn't swirly - its messy. How about a Helios 44M ?

PostPosted: Thu Jul 18, 2013 10:07 am    Post subject: Reply with quote

Sorry, not a Helios or a Domiplan.

PostPosted: Thu Jul 18, 2013 11:09 am    Post subject: Reply with quote

if I stick to my "cheap and very common tessar" idea, what about Industar 26m? Still, focus looks close for RF lens...

PostPosted: Thu Jul 18, 2013 11:11 am    Post subject: Reply with quote

You're close Pierre. I do have an I-26M, and funnily enough, it's one of the lenses I haven't used in ages that I pulled out of the cupboard yesterday to play with while we still have this great weather.

Would people like me to tell you what it is or post another pic from the lens to see if it helps to guess?

PostPosted: Thu Jul 18, 2013 12:13 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

Post another pic with more of a view. Very Happy

PostPosted: Thu Jul 18, 2013 12:19 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

What sort of pic do you mean, sorry for being dense.

PostPosted: Thu Jul 18, 2013 12:24 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

The background is rather plain in the first pic. Something with more detail might give a better sense of the lens's character. Wink

PostPosted: Thu Jul 18, 2013 1:52 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

How about a picture of a mirror ??

I'll get my coat..................... Laughing Laughing

PostPosted: Thu Jul 18, 2013 2:14 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

...or a pic of the lens Smile

PostPosted: Thu Jul 18, 2013 2:21 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

I'm embarrassed to say I just went and took half a dozen more pics with the lens and none of them were worth posting. It must be the heat getting to me...

I'll have another go after I finish my cold beverage. Smile

PostPosted: Thu Jul 18, 2013 5:45 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

actually i have no clue at all since i haven't tried many lenses, but let me guess industar61 maybe?

PostPosted: Fri Jul 19, 2013 1:42 am    Post subject: Reply with quote

Sorry, not an I-61, but close!

Here' a couple more shots at f4, not the most useful for identifying, sorry, again, no PP just resize for web.

I'll put everyone out of their misery tomorrow.

It's not possible that a near macro focus lens and dual purpose as good as this one is a cheap glass.
Calling VISA now to let them prepared for my visit tomorrow at ebay,
Very Happy

Renato

Is it M42 or RF? I would bet on Jupiter 8 in the latter case.

Okay, I'll tell you all what it is. David got closest with the very first guess, it's a Meyer Primotar 3.5/50, Meyer's version of the good old Tessar formula. It's not as common as the 2.8/50 Tessar but still quite common and it sells cheap, I saw one in a later barrel style sell for less than 10ukp this week.

This one is the same as this:

Not a rare top performer either, I've had two other copies and they all shoot the same:
