Seems some 285HV are OK for EOS and some not. Most other digicams would be fine with it.

I got my 285HV for less than half that. My Nikon SB25 cost even less
than that and it has a zoom head and the flash is adjustable down to
1/64!

I highly recommend old Nikon speedlites: SB24, SB25, and SB26.
