the bless, another take by Nesster, on Flickr
This one I did two takes - first with the Dogmar, then the Diacord:
the bless by Nesster, on Flickr
The Diacord has the sharper lens plus the advantage of positive focus, not to mention something like 30 years on the Goerz; and oh yeah, as I was shooting 300 on the Diacord I had the shorter focal length lens closed down more too... _________________ -Jussi

They are both decent photos, of course the Diacord has sharper details, but
I like the colors better in the Dogmar photo. |

Yeah, there's almost enough to do one of those 'but for the conspiracy' stories on Goerz - when the big Zeiss Ikon merger happened, Carl Zeiss engineers ended up running the lens business... and the Tessar was deemed to be the valuable marketing name, thus the demise of competing designs such as the Dogmar. The only Goerz left was the Frontar in the Box Tengor.
Yet before the merger Goerz was in the forefront of photography, at least until the old man died. And clearly the Dogmar is a quality lens... and many of the Goerz large format lenses sell for big money even now, due to their special qualities.
But then, these are Germans: surely this wasn't merely marketing driven, there were solid technical, manufacturing and product rationalization reasons, no? _________________ -Jussi

I'm with you on the Goerz lenses, was why I got the Tengors. I've seen
some amazing stuff with the Dagor lenses in LF, and yes, they go for
crazy money on the bay, a real bidding blood bath. |
