I have a fujinon 85/4 SF. I don't like it at F/4 and F/5,6 - background with too brillant lights. Somebody told me that my copy is a bad one. I want to buy another copy. How much I have to pay for the lens? Anybody knows?

It is very rare and can be expensive I sold my copy above 100 GBP. I didn't like at all. I don't think so you have a bad copy.

This is not a bad lens but a highly specialized lens that is quite difficult to use. It was designed for portraiture in the studio with proper lighting and background. Like every other soft focus lens using a "tea strainer," the bokeh is not very nice and lot of care should be taken to avoid any specular highlight in the background when used wide open. The reason is that every out of focus highlight will take the shape of the "tea strainer," leading to a rather unpleasant effect:

When used with a neutral background or in the studio with controlled lighting, the soft focus effect can be nice with some subjects:

From F/8 and above, this lens behaves like any other lens with no softness or weird bokeh.

Cheers!

Yes, its potrait specialised lens (like those SOFT Pentax lens series). I think Canon has/had some like those.
You can see why has that kind of softness http://kevincameras.com/gallery/album5147 Wink

Look this one Click here to see on Ebay how much wants for it although I don't think so it is worth that much.

Thanks for the kind words. Soft focus lenses are collector items. I think the Fujinon is the only SF lens in M42 mount (correct me if I am wrong), making it usable on many brands of cameras. Kevin Cameras is a grossly overpriced vendor but you should be able to sell your lens in the range of $300 - 400 on eBay.

Cheers!

Or just mount a UV filter then breath on it like the most famous glamour photographers do (but always refuse to admit) Wink

Abbazz

the 85/4 sf is a collector item, you said.

Yes, I began with the lenses of my father when I was a child, and I have the 85/4 because the collector's reflects did that I buy it. Now I want to use the lenses that have, I only used leica and konica, but the 85/4 sf don't like me, prefer the jupiter-9.
Regards.

That is pre-production not post-production Razz

Jokes aside, that effect too is boring in my opinion. Occasionally you see very good pictures with it, but most of the time it looks too obvious and pretentious.
