I bought this Auto-Sears 1.4/55 lens almost 5 years ago (think the bottom
cap was a clunky Sears Singlex? camera) and this is the first time I've
tried it:

Kodak Gold 200, expired 10/2008, Vivitar XC-3

Lens is by Tomioka

looks good, and no wonder because it's really hard to find a bad 50mm or around standard lens.
The series is very nice also, it renders the feeling of the old train, somehow I am captured by the mystery in #4, it looks like it has a story to tell, or something going to happen.

Good results and it didn't cost much either to get them....but is that a flare or light leak in the centre of the truck (above the front wheel) ?

results look more like a $15 lens Razz

Orio, thanks, this was at the old Railroad Depot downtown, dates back
before civil war times.

Excal, some flare, don't think a light leak.

Poilu, maybe $12.50? Razz Smile

Bill, I also own this lens and it's not bad at all!. It's the same than the PORST 55mm 1.4 and some other OEM brands. It was made by Tomioka.
To me is quite good, the bokeh is very nice.
For sure is worth much more that what you paid for it, as your samples show.

And it's also nice when used on the small digital EVILs Wink

Regards.
Jes.

I especially like how it makes everything look vintage - that truck for example, just looking at the picture one couldn't guess it was a 2009 Dodge Ram Charger. Wink

that truck shot has some 3D pop.

Jes, thanks, I think the lens is a good one, too. Not good enough for
Poilu, of course, with all his newer Zeiss and Apo-Lanthars. Laughing

Jussi, you forgot about it having a Hemi. Wink

Paul, I see what you mean, lens is a bit surprising.

Thanks, gents, for stopping by.

Looks fairly good, but I think it needs a hood judging by a couple of the pics.

Martin, I did use a hood, need to check if there's some haze on the lens.
Some were not all that bad:

The rear cap probably would have been a Ricoh Singlex...I collected a few Autos including this lens off of Singlex cameras...I even had the camera serviced but it sits lonely in the box... Very Happy while the lens sits waiting to be used... Rolling Eyes
Nice shots by the way.

"Cheap" lenses (i.e. lenses that can be found for little money) often are pretty good. Sometimes it's just the built that is not convincing.

Not in this case, Carsten. Well built, all solid metal and glass... Wink
