@ all Thanks for your friendly comments.

@ Stan - time that you let convert your own lens. It is really a dream. Normally I´m not so emotional - but this lens will be more and more my great (lens) love. Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

Rolf (and anyone else - Trifox?)

Though you have had the Canon 80-200 only for a few weeks, how do you compare its results with the Vario-Sonnar 80-200?

Thank you for your question. I have no 1:1 comparison at the moment. Try to make it the next days. Would be very interesting for me too. At the moment my feeling is that the Canon is "better". There is something "special" - hard to explain.

Those shots are gorgeous! What close focusing distance does the Canon have? Or did you use extension tubes?

Moin, Moin !

here the definition from Canon camera musuem

>>>

This was developed as part of the L-series lens that has gained much recognition as a high performance lens, and it utilizes fluorite (artificial crystal) and UD glass lens element to minimize chromatic aberration. It is extremely difficult to manufacture large artificial crystals of fluorite and this inevitably leads to high prices, but Canon has established a new manufacturing technology enabling significant reductions in manufacturing costs, achieving both high performance and an affordable price with this lens.

It also has a macro mechanism for shooting as close as 0.95m throughout the entire focal length range.

Shots without extension tubes but pics with a little bit crop during PP

Canon EF mount. Removing the original FD mount and converted with standard adapter and confirm chip. As I know it was really not easy due to tolerances of 0,3 mm +/-.

Lens reaches infinity. Have the same conversion for a FD 8/500 mirror. Excellent work too.
