My copy of Flek 2.8/20 is impressively sharp.
Some justice, after the first horrible copy I got two years ago.

This is melissa on the rear balcony:

It's sharper than my Nikkor-UD 3.5/20, and it wasn't easy.

Very sharp lens, as you could say, It's a Flek.

Melissa is an excelent model. I saw your pics of her and she always is in an attractive way. Really, a lovely caty.

I have an Flek 20/4 and used it only in B&W, I will try it in colour.

Congratulations for you, good lens is always a cause of enjoyment.

Impressive performance. The lens copes well with the high contrast too.

you have to learn Melissa to look to the lens
what she's dreaming all day? Eat bird?

Laughing yes
She lives in the apartment so she is bored.
A little above the balcony, there is the roof, and a continuos landing of birds.
so she is always distracted by them.
But when she does not watch birds, she sleeps, so she would not look better Rolling Eyes

That is a really nice copy that you have.

Melissa is getting quite famous.

Melissa is the Cat's Meow!

Here is another Flektogon image, this one from my Flek 20/4.

An entirely different subject, but again the handling of contrast is phenomenal with this lens. The light values run the gamut, from almost blown-out white to the very blackness of the hole in the tree. This can be challenging in the rain forest, especially when there is strong sunshine. The Flek handles it with ease! Shocked What a nice tool.

The Flektogon seems to be able to handle this better than other lenses that I use. The only "issue" I have had with the Flek is that I must take care to avoid flare.

Also, the sharpness is very good, take a look at the fern fronds and the hemlock branch tips.

This is an unretouched image; only the size was changed. With some minor Unsharp Mask and possibly some Curves, this image would show even more clarity.

In looking at Melissa's image, I see the same powerful handling of contrasts. Very Happy

A monster trunk, reminds me of those old tales where in the woods, a giant is born (or found)

I like this type of Flek 20 shots.

Ingo, I do too! Any more Flek shots in your arsenal? Smile

Orio, I've gone back and looked at your image, and am WOWED by the shadow detail! Is this straight off the lens? Amazing!

Estudleon: I think this was at f:8, to capture depth of field. Actually the Flek has LONG depth of field even at f:5.6 or f:4. But I stopped down to make sure, since it was available to use for this image.

Image was handheld, although most of my images that day were on tripod.

I took a LOT of Flek 20/4 images in the rain forest yesterday and the day before...I'll start a separate thread so as not to clutter up this thread too much. By the way, it was 84 degrees in the rain forest valley yesterday - fairly uncommon temperature.

It has been a very bright day, and the walls and even floor (see reddish cast on the wall at the back of the cat) reflected a lof of sunlight. In this conditions, taking good shadows photos is easy Smile

OK, two shots more. Both @ f2.8. No post processing. The sharpness and contrast of this lens is impressive.

Perfect lens.

I've Flextogon 4/20 but the sharpness is less than your lens. Crying or Very sad

I saw pics of both F/4 and 2,8, and it seem to me that the 2,8 is

better in the borders, but at the center I think that the F/4 may be better.

Of course I think in this way based in the pics that I saw in the forum - or

internet - I don't see pics in the real word take with the F/2,8.

The 2.8 is sharper
The 4 has ideal control of distortion so it's better for architecture.

Whats the close-focus distance on these lenses (20mm f/2.8 and 20mm f/4)?

PostPosted: Fri Jul 11, 2008 9:40 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

In practice about 3" - 4" for the 2.8/20 and 2" - 3" for the 4/20.

They focus closer than the scale indicates.

What definitive you are, Orio!! Very Happy Very Happy

You have experienced with fleks, I know that. But it's prossible that a Good copy of the F/4 can be as sharp as the 2,8, or more. I heared some users said that. Specially at F/11, where they found the better rendition of the lens F/4

The real problem, for me, is that It can be very difficult to generalize, and I assume that I did it, when the copies of both lens vary so much from one to others. Confused

I had one F/4 and today i bought another F/4. At F/8 and 11 it seem to be OK. I will tray. I will send the test.

Everything is possible Smile
I have 5 Flek 4/20 and have had two Flek 2.8/20 and my experience says what is quoted above.
If I had to choose between the two only one lens, I would take a 4/20, because for me the precision of lines is a better feature in a superwide than the sharpness. If I want to see details of an objects I use a tele lens on it, not a superwide Wink From a superwide I want that it shows me the most possible correct world.

I wish I hadn't clicked on this thread...why do I do this to myself! Crying or Very sad

Beautiful shots, all!

Although it's extraordinarily difficult to compare the sharpness of your Melissa shot to my Rain Forest shot, Orio, I think that your Melissa shot with the 2.8 Flektogon appears to be sharper. Of course, this doesn't take into account a bunch of variables which we have no control over.

I am going to try to round up my three-legged cat (Jack) and make him pose for me! Laughing
