I'm cheap, and I generally go for low cost adapters. One thing that irks me is when the adapter is fitting sloppy and the lens has a bit of give to it, especially when focusing.

So I started doing this a while back. It's an easy way to get a nice firm fit. For adapters that are downright flimsy, with soft metal, you can push folded paper or I guess plumbers tape (haven't tried that) into the slit to get the fit better to make that "spring" firmer.

That's pretty much it, but if you want to read more:

Indeed it does work. Took me a while to realize.

I've had to do that with a few adapters now. It's because the manufacturers use the cheapest materials they possibly can, and instead of using a spring steel they use mild steel which is pennies cheaper. They have excellent CNC machines that make accurate parts, but the materials are rubbish. It's not just lens adapters either, there are internationally renowned brands that sent their manufacturing 'abroad' that have lost their reputations over this problem. The product works fine when its new, but it doesn't last - and the materials are the failure.
