Picked up a Canon New FD 50/1.8 with a some other stuff a few weeks ago. The lens had fallen and jammed the helical threads. It was an easy fix. Strip off the filter ring and focus grip and judiciously apply leverage to pry the threads apart and pop them back into engagement. I worked the helical back and forth a few times and turned it far enough that the focus guide disengaged as did the aperture controls! That means taking the back half apart to get the aperture controls re-engaged. Two of the three screws securing the mount came out fine, the third now has a stripped head! Oh well... Experienced gained.

BTW, if you take one of these apart from the front, the front cell is secured by the focus ring. Remove the ring and the front group comes out. Make sure your hand is there to catch it.
