I'm a bit embaressed because its an AF lens, my only excuse is that the lens is old one and I use it MF.
Its the smc Pentax F 100/2.8 macro
this one:
http://www.bdimitrov.de/kmp/lenses/primes/short-tele/F100f2.8-Macro.html
Its build like a tank razor sharp, nice bokeh and colour rendering.
The AF is slow dispite the focus limiter but this is obsolete in macro.
The lens was in production from 1978 to 1991.
The converter is the "Sigma APO tele converter 1.4 EX"
If you buy a sigma converter make sure its an "EX" what the abreviation is I don't know but its stands for top quality. I'm searching for the same but 2X

I prefer evening or morning for insects because off the special light and usualy ther is no wind. Wind is a drama for macro

I don't have a problem with the autofocus, except for when the user gives up to it and gives up to searching for creative alternative views.
One thing in fact is to focus on two different points of an object using the autofocus, another is to do it using manual focus.
With autofocus you just jump from a point to the other, much like you do when you travel by airplane.
With manual focus, in order to reach the second point you have to physically move the focus through all the intermediate points. There, along the way, you may find a different thing, a view that you hadn't planned, a discovery. Much like when you travel by car. You have a destination, but sometimes what you find along the way turns out to be more interesting.
So this is my conceptual criticism to the use of autofocus. It's not the tool per se that is negative, it's the fact that people give up to it completely and give up searching and ultimately give up viewing.

To clarify, the picture above was made MF, the lens was AF but the AF was shut down.
I use AF but in an MF way, program my camera to use only the central AF point. By portrait I aim on the eye, focus by pressing the shutter button half way, keep it make my composition en shoot. This way you use the AF to focus were you want it. It needs a bit of training but it works fast an curate and the man behind the camera keeps in control.
