Wow, cool story, Pickles! Have you digitized that shot? I'd love to see it.

A couple of my favorites -- shot with a Canon F-1, probaby both of them are Fujichrome 100. As I recall the first one was taken with a Canon FD 200mm f/2.8 and the second was with a Tamron SP 60-300mm f/3.8-5.4. Both taken back in about 1986.

Neither of the above photos are crops, by the way. I have many more, but they're all on another computer, and a lot of them are also up at my flickr account. Since flickr has changed its policies about linked images, though, it's not possible to provide decent-sized links anymore, so I just don't bother.

I only knew a couple of folks who raced and they raced in amateur SCCA classes. I was also a reporter, covering the races for a local racing magazine, though, and got to meet quite a few racers that way. Mostly so I could add a few quotes from winning drivers to my articles. Can't recall interviewing anyone who was nationally famous, though.

The wynns car is awesome....I'd be super happy with that.
No, I haven't digitized any of my shots...most of them I still have in albums, but I no longer have th negs.
But it was all good fun....I reckon we have some common ground!

Back in the day, manual primes were the only option. I started shooting around 1955 and didn't possess AF nor zoom for 40 years. But that's just me. Back in the day, I shot close action with a YashicaMat 124G (TLR) or a Yashica Electro GSN (RF). I shot further action with my 135/HF Olympus Pen-FT with a Zuiko 100 or a Spiratone 400. The film and its processing were almost more important than the camera or lens. Ah, you kids have it so easy today!

Today I don't shoot much action with my few AF lenses. Instead, I'll use MF primes on my K20D with Catch-In-Focus aka Trap Focus. Just pre-focus where I expect the action to occur, hold the shutter down, and wait. Very easy. My shots haven't become much better. But that's just me. And my delaminating eyeballs. At least with digital chimping, I can tell right away when a shot is bad. I don't have to wait for the darkroom to reveal my goofs.
