If that had been shot with a new Pentax lens, it would all have been purple. I dunno what went wrong. But FA and later seem to always CA. Some of the newer are alot worse.

For example. It's sad. _________________ My Flickr - Takumar.org

I compared my FA 50/1.4 with Rikenon 50/1.4. Rikenon has much less purple fringing and lower contrast wide open. |

This is a shame even if I well know Rikenon are good lenses. _________________

It does have an interesting quality. It is oddly flat for such a shot. I think an old Super Tak would produce a nicer personality. _________________ Canon: 5D,40D Contax: Aria,RTS,RTS II, RX Leica: CL Voigtlander: Bessa L

Isn't purple fringing partly because of the sensor? This lens was designed before digital SLR's. Why would newer lenses be worse? |

Perhaps the new factories are worse at making the lenses. My Super Takumars and SMC-M lenses are far better with CA then the newer Pentax lenses. _________________ My Flickr - Takumar.org

I tried earlier objective SMC Pentax-M 50/1.4, it on sharpness on a film on the open aperture has conceded FA50/1.4. It is known, that Pentax has changed calculation of the optical scheme for objectives A/F/FA50/1.4 that has made their sharper. Scheme Takumar 50/1.4 is identical Pentax K/M50/1.4. On figure it most likely is less appreciable, while the matrix will not be 24*36mm. _________________ Kiev-15 (Mir-20A, Mir-1A, Helios-65, Helios-81, Jupiter-9A, Jupiter-11A, Granit-11, adapter M39+Industar-61LZ/39mm),

I too so think, that the violet aura has appeared because of a matrix, on a film such I did not see. And can because of Bayer? _________________ Kiev-15 (Mir-20A, Mir-1A, Helios-65, Helios-81, Jupiter-9A, Jupiter-11A, Granit-11, adapter M39+Industar-61LZ/39mm),

I suspect that this might be an artifact of the angle at which the light hits the sensor. As each light sensitive element is in a small 'pit' only light heading directly vertical to the photosite will register correctly.
Angled light will hit the senor obliquely or not at all?
Film is essentially 'flat' and thus has less of a problem. Of course the FA 1.7 was designed for 35mm film not digital, and digital lenses are designed for the smaller sensor and to take into account the angle of incidence issues?
I have a FA 1.7 however and notice little difference between the amount of CA with it, and the stock digital only zoom. Sharpness, colour rendition etc. are different, but the CA not noticeably so.
I do however notice a great deal more CA on my beloved Adaptall-2 Tamron SP 70 -210 f3.5 when used on a digital body (K10D, *istD and *istDL) compared with any of my many many 35mm SLRs... _________________ Lenses and cameras:
