I have an Exakta Varex 1000 that has some problems.

First of all the shutter curtains are sticky, meaning when I release the shutter the curtains do not spring back
quickly enough. Well on 30 and B, and they work, but on other speeds it is sticking sometimes more, sometimes less.
Also the mirror sticks in the up position at all speeds besides B and 30.
I can loosen the mirror by turning the shutter speed adjustment ring as if I want to create a double exposure.
in other words without lifting it.

Any solutions? The easier the better.
Thank you.

Just sounds like it needs cleaning and lubricating, with most cameras of this age the original grease will have dried up leaving a thick sticky substance that cause the mechanism to slow down or jam.
No quick and simple repair for this, it needs dismantling, all the old grease cleaning out and re-lubricating.

Thank you for the reply. I am glad to hear that there is a possibility to fix the camera. Slowly I will get to it then.

I have an old Zorki with a similar problem.
The shutter mechanism was cleaned from the old grease and lubricated and now it works great.
Unfortunately the guy who did it for me has passed away last year - a real pity as he was very good repairman.
