Enlarger lenses: Building a M32.5 to M42 adapter

Wanting to progress further in the use of enlarger lenses (that have proven to be very nice so far), I needed some kind of adapter to mount the ones with M32.5 screw.

I found one such adapter at eBay, but it was too expensive. So I decided to build my own.

I keep some old enlarger adapters and plates that can hold a M32.5 lens: That will be the starting point.

Unscrewing the retainer allows for taking out the M32.5 plate:

Then a M42 base from a donor lens is needed:

The plate is too thick and too wide to be used as is: (see the M42 base inside the plate):

Luckily my friend Enric has a lathe and can be of big help here, cutting the unneeded part of the plate out:

So ready to join both parts with epoxy resin; (drilling 1.6 mm holes for the needed 2mm metric screws and making the thread was beyond my abilities, so I decided to glue them togheter after some filng to make the surface coarser):

And that's the result:

Now is time to go out and do some testing, but you know, today is saturday and it's housekeeping day Wink
Maybe later...

Regards.
Jes.

Some quick shots with the Schneider-Kreuzach Componar 105mm f4.5

All @ f/4.5

I am glad I am not the only person driven to handiwork by inflated prices of certain adapters. Good job.

Thanks for your comments, Lloydy & Greg Smile

Having a friend with a lathe is really useful Wink

I'm seriously thinking in getting one. It's the key for most lens adapting projects.

You should try it, it's really funny, specially when you go out with the bellows and the camera and people look at you Wink

Nice construction Jesito Wink
I guess a hood will improve the contrast bye the way.

Anyone tried to ask in a specialised shop (whichs is selling development stuff etc.) for an adapter?

I send an E-Mail to Schneider Kreuznach (in Germany) and asked how to get an adapter.
They said that I could simply order one from any specialised shop which is selling Schneider Kreuznach stuff by giving them the purchase order number "10711".

Schneider has also establishments outside of Germany, for example also in New York and Hong Kong. I guess they also have such adapters in stock. And they have a lot official distributers which should be also able to provide these adapters:

I found this 32.5 to 39mm adapter in ebay:

Click here to see on Ebay

But I thought that adapting it to M42 with a second ring would be a bit unstable, so I decided to build my own.
I haven't seen any one reaady made from 32.5 ro M42.

Regarding the hood, I fully agree: these are darkroom lenses that have no coating since they aren't expected to receive parasitic light. However I haven't been able ro figure out how to put one on them.

Regards.
