Eclipse of the Moon

Yesterday we had an almost total eclipse of the moon.

I tried to shoot that with my Beroflex 8/500 at my EOS350D. Was not easy, since the moon "moves" pretty fast.

Here you can see the result...

Cheers,
Carsten

P.S.:This is a picture of the lens.

Nice results Carsten.
I took some pictures a while ago with Super MC Tak 200mm and of course first ten or so I was fooled by the night and then I figured out the corect exposure time.
If I find them I'll post a few.

I got it.

Nice!

The special thing yesterday was the red colour the moon gets during an eclipse:

Some considerable post-production, though.

Problem is that the moon gets pretty dark during a eclipse (I mean, this is what an eclipse is about, right?). Thus you need longer exposure times, but then the moon moves too fast for an exposure of some seconds. Tricky!

Exposuretime for that pic was 1/8

Wow Carsten! I'm left wordless!!
These deserve to end up on a science book or magazine!

EDITed to add:
both enlargements are good (Carsten's and Sorin's) but I have to say that it's the sequence that really impressed me.

Carsten, the flash you used must have been huge! There's a little bounced
flash off the top of the moon. Razz Nice pic! Luv the sequential pics, too!

Sorin, nice, but on my monitor doesn't look like it's completely in focus.

DSG (DiSodium Glutamate?hahaha) great detail, just superb in every
way! That's quite a bazooka you shot it with, too....

@DSG: This is truely amazing! The best picture of the eclipse I have seen so far!

Could you show a pic of the setup (MTO at SD10), please?

Carsten

P.S.: Did you mirror the pic?

Impressive shoot! I have 3M-5CA 500mm f/8 mirror lens one of my forever keep lens. Is MTO and 3M-5CA come from same manufacturer ? Perhaps a question to our Russian lens expert Smile

@DSG: How did you manage to get such a sharp picture of the moon during the eclipse, Alf?
When I tried to shoot that, I had to expose for too long, the moon was moving and thus I could not get really sharp pictures. Your lens offers f10.5 so it not really "fast", is it?

It is no problem too take a sharp photo of the moon under normal circumstances, but during a full lunar eclipse? What is your secret?
Can you tell?
