Thanks, I have posted the images up in the equipment gallery so you can see why I wanted it. Very Happy
In my case it was the seller and to be honest a little impatience on my part (LBA) Wink The seller took 2 weeks just to give me his bank details after I had to chase him up...phonecall and emails. But all is well in the end...you have not so good sellers mixed with the dishonest sellers and impatient buyers... Laughing ...and then the postal system!

I am up to my ears with eBay selling, it is no longer possible to sell anything without having to worry about classic fraud that uses PayPal's "protection" which decides in favor of buyer now matter how crooked buyer is.

Classic case: I sell, ship on May 2nd. May 9th buyer claims item not received, I reply that tracking shows item for some strange reason has been returned to my post office in city of origin but Post Office cannot find it when I go there and ask. I send message that I will investigate, and reply when I have info from Post Office. May 10th, one day later (before Post Office replies me) buyer files PayPal claim for full refund, freezing my assets and account. Before I can even locate shipment! I reply that case is investigated, Post Office will reply May 11th why do you open PayPal claim. Buyer files claim regardless.

Buyer has not read 4 messages I have sent about issue, files dispute without reading.

PayPal sends me warning that case is clearly in favor of buyer, I risk negative feedback despite going above and beyond seller duty and obligation. This is a fucked up system - never selling anything on eBay after this again.

Similar situation happened to me, and so after I'm done selling the few "Ebay oriented" stuff I have left, I'm going to stop selling on Ebay permanently.

My situation: I sell item (Porst 135mm f1.8) in mid-February. Buyer in Russia asks me to ship using the cheapest method––USPS Priority Envelope. I tell him sure, but I can't insure it, so he'd have to take responsibility in the case of package loss/damage. I send it off. A month later, buyer files an "Item not received" claim to Ebay/Paypal. Paypal puts a hold on the amount, which I needed to supply from my bank account to continue using Paypal for other purposes.

Buyer files the claim without ever contacting me, though he states in the claim that he as "Already tried contacting seller" (blatant lie).

USPS tracking shows that the item was received and processed through a USPS facility and "In Transit", though not delivered. I contact USPS but of course they can't track it after the package leaves the US. Ebay decides the claim is in the buyer's favor, and reimburses the entire amount, including shipping. I appeal, to no avail.

Now I have literally sent hundreds, maybe over a thousand packages to various countries using USPS Priority. Not a single item lost. Then this happens. Either Russian post is very incompetent, and they lost the package, or it was delivered, but never marked "delivered" (which would mean that the buyer is scamming me). In either case, I said to Ebay, I see no reason why their "Buyer Protection" should function so that the seller is made 100% responsible *even for the shipping cost*. Ebay is the one that recommends sellers to use USPS (UPS, or FedEx), and the buyer is the one that demanded I use an un-insurable mode of shipping. I do exactly as I am told/asked to do, and I get to be 100% responsible for the incompetence of USPS/Russian post or the wrongdoings of the buyer. Clearly, there is no such thing as "Seller Protection" here.

I'm fed up. Ebay will probably continue to be an alluring place to make purchases, and I may continue to use them for that, but I want to say loud and clear to everybody that, that is NOT because Ebay & Paypal are doing *their* best to make it so, but rather at the *complete* expense of the sellers. It is just wrong.

Rant over.

As an eBay seller, you can never send anything uninsured. If you ship uninsured, sooner or later some scammer who knows eBay/PayPal policy will use the loophole to collect item and claim unreceived --> seller lose money and item. This means expensive shipping, something that automatically translates to low points in buyer feedback...

That's the best of cases, you lose only item and money. Worst of all, these scammers will leave you negative feedback, ruining (in my case) 8 years of flawless seller performance: I lose item, money and eBay reputation.

For a seller, eBay is so f****d up there is no reason for anyone to even consider selling there anymore - what a change for a service that used to pioneer social media and the benefits of online trading, without borders.

Greed, the cancer of today's World. For one fucking Nikon D70 worth 100 EUR - how low can you go?

I have had similarly bad experiences lately, I just wish there was an alternative for selling gear, I've been ripped off left right and centre and ebay does nothing to help sellers.

erm wouldn't be better if you just sell in your own country, although small countries may have a problem with the size of the buying public...for me I'd just sell in the UK even for a cheaper sale, at least the goods can't get lost in China or Russia or wherever, but would think forums are safest for buying/selling.

In a similar vein, I only sell to UK buyers and so far I haven't had a problem. I don't trust postal services abroad as much as I do our own.

The way I see it, if you scam me I'll come and visit you, after all this is a small island we live on and every corner is within reach. Twisted Evil

I've only ever bought through a forum once (this one) and it was a flawless transaction, I think it is the safest option available. Smile

I sold 600+ item with registered air-mail I lost package as seller once, as buyer a few times I expect seller didn't send me out, due they did not provide tracking number even if I did request for it. I got scammed once and most of my buyer come from China,Indonesia, or from USA but also Chinese people. Ian had bad experience from people who are living in UK, so no reason to sell for less to homeland only. I run small webdesign, logo business too, photographers from all over the world 1000x better people than those people who buy logo, webdesign etc. We have more trouble under a month than I had trouble under 5 yrs on Ebay.

oh boy! I really know this one living in Italy. On the occasions where there has been tracking I have seen items take 2 days to get from another EU country to Italy, then sometimes another 4 or 5 days to get from Milan to Rome, then up to 4 days from arriving in Rome to get actually delivered at home. Without tracking, who knows? Unfortunately most of the courier companies here have nearly as bad customer service as the post.

And if something is sent from outside the EU... it can take up to a month in customs before being sent on, sometimes with exorbitant fees tacked-on.

For these reasons I am reasonably patient with eBay sellers, waiting awhile and asking gently about any delays. Luckily so far I have only sold items to people in other parts of Italy, which can be sent "express" reasonably cheaply, other than the hour lost at the post office to send the package.

I am looking forward to moving to the US in a few months from this standpoint I certainly expect fewer delays
