Used prices are going up and it's not only ebay. On our local online flea market site people are trying to sell Zenits and the like for 100€ or more. And there are many of them, not like they're special in any way. And what's even more interesting, I think they actually sell. Maybe not exactly at the asking prices but definitely higher than reasonable. Last year I was selling a few cheap common items (cameras, lenses) that I didn't need anymore and had problems moving them. I set prices to what I thought was reasonable (like 30€ for a Zenit with Helios 44M for example) but there was virtually no interest other than a few people asking what's wrong with the stuff and why such low prices. Then I raised my prices by 25% to 50% and sold nearly everything without problems.

It will not lats for long. These prices will get close to others of real value, will loose interest and drop again sharply.

We all hope you are correct . . . well, all but the sellers I guess. Smile

But remember what happened to prices of MF lenses when mirrorless camera bodies became popular. I fear there could be another upward price spike when and if mirrorless FF camera bodies become more affordable. Virtually without exception, these MF lenses we all treasure can cover FF 35mm. Sure, the edges might be a little fuzzy in many instances. But those edges are covered nevertheless.

Yes and no, I think. Yes, in a sense that stuff like this won't be selling (I mean assuming there is someone foolish enough to buy it now), but $100 AE-1P kits will probably stay.

Looks exactly like a classic Amazon scam.

I've noticed that some stuff has gone up in price but some stuff have come down too..

For some reason most of the the old Olympus OM Zuiko stuff has been dropping like a rock since it's peak in like ~2009..while most of the Olympus Pen-F stuff has been either holding steady or going up. Jupiter-9's and Helios 40's have dropped like a rock while Helios 44 and Jupiter-3 has gone up to the point where they are no longer that much of a bargain..

Most Leica stuff is crazy through the roof and probably the best "investment" if you are looking at collecting that way. Seems like everything Leica goes up.. The Minolta 58/1.2 has also dropped a lot in price since 2009.. while the Minolta 250mm mirror lens keep climbing and climbing... Asahi Takumar prices seems to have stayed flat and are about the same.. I've been collecting a lot of Mamiya 645 lenses lately and those have gone down from a few years ago too.. to the point where I think it's a super bargain! I thought for sure they would go up when the new Kipon Baveyes Medium Format Focal Reducers came out but I guess the adapters are rather expensive and haven't caught on..

There used to be almost zero market for projection lenses but mostly because of this forum, some go for a lot now--more than they are reasonably worth in some cases.

The only way I find a bargain online is by seeking out lenses that need repairs... And the occasional KEH listing graded "UGLY" for no discernible reason.

Love a good deal on an ugly lens. I look for good glass and function and don't care much about how the lens body looks, it's all about performance.

There [s]is[/s] was a guy on ebay UK calling himself lens-solutions. He specialised particularly in hoovering up the "wundertute" 400mm and 500mm lenses at auction then reselling them. I kept an eye on him because he would frequently bid against me when I also pursued select long focal lengths for resale, and because he was the winning bidder on a spares/repairs soligor 300mm (broken aperture connection I repaired) off me that he promptly resold. He also sold shorter focal length primes and a motley variety of old zooms. He would describe these as "for"canon, nikon etc even when he was simply bundling an M42 mount lens with a cheap adapter which for nikon wouldn't focus to infinity. What amazed me was how he did manage to sell, even in spite of his mediocre descriptions and pics. There is a market out there.
However I do note that the average BIN for eg a 400/6.3 has dropped a lot to around £59.

He's back/still there, now calling himself the-lens-shop (and bidding on lenses using name e****l)
Still up to his old tricks here's an example - basic 400mm f6.3, + crappy old tc's:

No mention that M42+ nikon adapter won't focus to infinity!
