Domiplans . . ?

Well, I’m rather surprised. I’ve had this Meyer-Optik Gorlitz 50mm f2,8 Domiplan sitting around gathering dust for a while and thought I’d play with it for a bit.

What I learned is that it’s a “dreamy” lens, that’s all it will be but . . dreams can be very nice.

My standard bokeh test lens shot:

another one:

Domiplan rules:

1. ALL sharpening comes after the fact
2. ALL sharpening comes after the fact
3. ALL sharpening comes after the fact
4. Always shoot in plenty of light.

The colors are surprisingly nice, edge to edge is not bad at all. It beats my Holgas and it's cheaper!

Cheers

Jules

Hi, Jules!

Dreamy yes, but the bokeh is bit wild, isn't it? It rather resembles that one of a mirror lens. Wink
OK, highlight bokeh is really difficult for a lens...

Yes the bokeh is rather wild. I think it can be worked with a bit but for a 12USD lens . . .

If you use in shadow or not opposite into sunlight this lens is not bad, my copy is very sharp pleasant lens, even is looking like a toy. This shoots a strange , but perhaps interesting to make captures for web design for example.

Yes I think you're right. Not an "everyday" lens, but maybe once a month or so, with a small glass of Grappa. (Perhaps a large glass)

There are also other more famous and expensive lenses with such a crappy highlight bokeh, the Jupiter-9 comes to my mind. Yet the Jupiter-9 can be a beautiful and useful lens if you manage to avoid all blurred highlights.

If to me does not change memory, this objective consists of 3 lenses, figure average, sharpness average, colors averages. To me has not liked. IMHO.

My copy was surprisingly good, but I didn't paid much attention after a few test shoots. So many excellent faster 50mm lens available, no reason to use this lens even if good.
