Just laid down the dough for one on Le Bay. After reading this DP Review thread... http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1036&thread=27092473 I've been looking for one. Anybody got one? If you do what can I really expect and what are the ups and the downs I can look forward to? Here is the lens

I own a Vivitar MC Macro-Zoom * 28-210 / 3.5-5.6 (Filtergewinde 72mm)
I think it is identical with yours mentioned.
In deed, it is tack sharp:

I made the photos just in front the photo-convention, where I could buy it for 35 Euro.
An additional "plus": focal lenght and metering is to be manipulated by one tube.
The only "minus" is the fact, that this tube easily moves, if not fixed by hand, when holding down the camera..

Looking forward to your results, Dawg! I've read that posting and was a bit suspicious of it. Sounded a bit like he was trying to sell it!

Speaking for myself, I would never sell it.
First I thought it to be ridiculous to have such a wide focal range with the usual dilemma of calculating such a lens.
But It works surprisingly good.
As a M-42 being relatively small it is ideal for a trip with the need for spare luggage.

Hi retro. What is the serial number of that lens? If it is 09xxxx then it is Cosina made. If it is 77xxxx then it is a Kobori made lens. Sharp photos there and a good price on that lens.

Hi CC. It does look that way but I figured it was worth the shot to see. He (the poster of that DP thread) Seems to think it is of Series 1 quality. If so then maybe the other Kobori made Vivs are too. We'll see.

This one I bought is a P/KA lens and like you I thought it would be an Ideal travel lens.

In fact the lenses made by Kiron and the one Kiron made for Vivitar are known to be very good though one can get them for around $30 on eBay, with the one made by Kiron is considered to be better despite it being 1:7 zoom ratio.

I bought one made by Kiron for $20 about a month back but I have not been able to use it as it is with my son in US

Thx for the info!

You are welcome Retro. For the serial numbers of Vivitar lens and the manufacturer that goes with them I use this web sight.....

http://www.robertstech.com/vivitar.htm

Another good one for the price of an old lens and what they cost back when they were made I use this one....
