As they saying goes "necessity is the mother of all inventions". I have wanted a self contained macro rig for a long time so I finally set myself to building one. The rig is attached to a piece of 3/4" MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard). The camera/bellows/macro focusing rail is attached to a Z-Flex base and on to a "sled" of MDF that slides between two rails. This sled can be locked in place by a 5/16" star knob. Attached on the other side of the rails is a XYZ macro stage by Wemacro that sits atop a scissors lift lab table. On top of this I place my PVC light tent over which I place up to 3 studio strobes as needed. I have done everything from 1:5 to 5:1 and it works brilliantly.

Nicely done! What is the thread of the tapped holes on the top of the x/y slide where you have attached your alligator clip specimen holder (ie. 1/4-20 UNC, etc.).

Thanks,

Paul
