used to get E6 35 for a buck (development only, comes back in about 7x6images plastic sleeve) at local Saturn
they took more like 2.50 and unpredictable pricing for e6 120
(and e6 35 Ektachrome slide copy
since for some reason they processed that one manually :<)
sent some to eurocolor gera, fine service,
but their bags (35/120 one each) just went up to something like 4 bucks or more! (from ~2)
and the included return postage is only covering Germany I suppose)
BW is right out, cant pay for this at a lab
and it will never be what you want |

I just dropped two rolls of 220 off at Action Photo in Concord (and four rolls of 120) today. Their price for 200 was, understandably, twice 120. Actually, the guy had to look up the price that's how long it's been since they developed 220.
I use them OFTEN and they're truly great. _________________ http://www.youtube.com/user/hancockDavidM |

Um since we are at it
The test film from Eurocolor (Agfachrome 50 120) came back nice
One frame was dark but that was probably user error, or less probable,
some hiccup of the kiev88
But I sort of tuned the film to start earlier and shot in the failing evening light until I was sure the light was hitting paper
This didn't work out so well - I got onlly 12 or 12.5 6x6 frames,
including the dark one
Is this a common in your face quirk of eurocolor gera processing?
Or can a man simply not be cheap with 120?
With 35 I usually got 37 or 37.5 and I heard of people with manual film
injection that they get 39 or 40 - I suppose this takes some practice though |

A roll of 120 film can hold 12 6x6cm frames and no more. On 135 though I regularly get between 37 and 39 if frame spacing is correct. _________________ my flickr stream |

Here in Houston, the 4th largest city in the US, with a Greater Houston Area population of well over 4 million people, there is only one lab left that does 120. It is a Pro lab and it also does E6 in 35mm and medium format. Turn around time is hours. They have film runs at 9:30 am and 12:30 pm. They seem to be staying moderately busy. But their prices are fairly high. You're paying for promptness and for Pro quality. Here's their website:
http://www.azphoto.com/
Some of their prices:
35mm E6 is $10.10 per roll unmounted, 11.25 mounted; C41 negs, sleeved, $7.15, B&W negs, sleeved, $8.20
120 E6 is $10.25 (sleeved only), C41 negs, sleeved $6.65, B&W negs, sleeved, $7.85.
220 E6 is $17.65 (sleeved only), C41 negs, sleeved $11.75, B&W negs, sleeved, $12.40
4x5 E6 is $3.00, C41 negs, $3.00, B&W negs, $3.25
These folks also do a lot of different sorts of film scanning too.
My local Costco still does 35mm film developing, and I'll take my C-41 to them to have negs developed only. Cost is less than $3.00. They do a good job, too.
Because of the high price of slide film and the high price to develop it -- roughly $20 a roll now -- I have started developing my own E6 using kits I get from Freestyle here in the US. The results have been quite good. The most important variable is bath temperature. Using a small Styrofoam cooler, like one meant to hold a six-pack, works well for keeping the bath temp stable.
I feel that it is only a matter of time before I won't be able to get C41 processed conveniently, so I recently bought a Unicolor C41 kit, and I'm gonna give it a go as well. I've already been developing my own B&W for many years, so it's really just a matter of expanding my technique somewhat so I can add color to it.
You folks in Europe have access to some kits that we can't get here, I believe. Freestyle stocks Tetenal, from Germany, in C41 and E6, and Rollei, also from Germany I'm assuming, in C41 only. Freestyle also stocks chemicals from Arista and Unicolor. I believe Arista is a house brand and Unicolor is a US brand as well. _________________ Michael

Seems I'm really lucky in Eastern Poland
I can develop any C41 in like 30 minutes (I'm really good with guys from photo lab), doesn't matter if that's 135 or 120/220. They develop anything. It costs about $1.
I used to wait for E-6 for a week (it was sent to a one place in Poland), but recently I've found a place in my city, where they develop it on demand. Didn't test it yet, but quite a nice surprise to try out
[EDIT]
I wrote that too soon.
Yesterday I wanted to develop my first roll from Horizon and it turned out they closed that E-6/C-41 place. Now they do digital only
I'll see on Monday how about the other C41 place I knew. _________________ Samples and subjective tests of manual lenses here:

I do all my own B&W 120 and 220 processing -- I have many different developers and many chemicals to make them up from the Formulae -- on another Forum I offered to develop only B&W 120, 220 and 35mm for £ 1-50 a roll ( NO VAT) and I got a few BUT was messed about so much -- then they wanted 'scans' on discs which I don't know how to to do so I have largely given up helping anyone. _________________ Long Live REAL PHOTOGRAPHY ! |
