Spent time this eve trying to narrow down a small portfolio for our youngest's college applications. She's not applying to art school, but wants to do photography in college.

These are pretty much done with her standard set up - K100D, DA 16-45, AF280T on an umbrella, with on-camera flash... So not manual focus, but please indulge me Wink

(she does have some Spotmatic / Tak 50/1.4 shots too...)

I like 2 and 4, but they are all very nice shots! She shows some real
talent for this kind of work. Was the mother a photographer? Just
wondering where she might have inherited. Just kidding and ya gotta
be proud of the youngest! Wink Smile

Thanks folks, we all had a hard time figuring out what to include vs not.

The folks at Pentax forums are much tougher on these Shocked

I think they are all really good. A few are slightly disturbing which is cool. Perhaps that's the Pentax forum's uncomfortableness with the shots. I don't know if I would call them fashion shots though. More the "A" word. Wink

Jules, yes, I regret using the F word, and didn't want to use the A word either Laughing

Most of the technical points have to do with blown highlights - I'm not sure it's in the original or her style of post editing.

Beautiful shots, professional taste. I liked BWs much more.

This type of photos is the most "trendy" in photo art magazines. Your daughter is surely well up to date.

As for me: I like them.
I appreciate the courage of doing something bold. It denotes character.
The colours on #1 are perfect, "grunge" just as much as needed. but careful to the burned highlights though.
I would like to see #2 with the same colours as #1
If you have to take one down, I would vote for the last one: it seems of a weaker impact to me compared to the previous powerful ones.

Very creative work.
I like 2nd best.
Ever tried a rotation of 90° clockwise at 1st photo? Cool

I like number 4 the best. I like also the composition in number 1, but the highlights are to burned out for my taste.

Thank for showing these, very inspirering.

Thank you for all the kind and constructive comments. Yes, I think I'll sit with her with #1 to see if the original has the blown out highlights, for she may well have edited it to her taste. Perhaps I can convince her to re-edit if the original is better.
