Considering M42 mount on a minolta 7D

I’m seriously considering putting an adapter onto my minolta 7D naturally to use screw mounts, but it’s somewhat scary not knowing if it’s going to do any damage to the camera.
I’ve heard some say they work good, others say they have broke the body contacts trying but those I think were trying to use some fish eye possibly.
Basically what I’m worried about are the contacts shorting out against the adapter, maybe get broke or bent, contacts coming in contact with lens mount thus shorting out, etc also, or getting the thing on then not being able to get it off later.

The stop down focus, metering, manual aperture is not a problem, focusing may be a tad bit harder especially with my eyes, infinity I think there’s fixes to that, I like the idea of mostly manual so that you have much more control over how you want the pic to turn out, many more ways get different shots.

Has anyone or know anyone that has adapted there 7D, am I correct in assuming that using screw mounts would be the best route to go vs. using another type mount, is there something that I’m missing or should know about by converting to manual lenses, which adapter or who sells the best adapters, any advice helpfull, (i know should have bought a pentax Laughing )

I have a few links of adapters from different sellers if that’s allowed on here, if you could give me your opinions.

Unfortunately, I have no experience with Minolta tools so I can not help you with this. Crying or Very sad
The only merchant i know of these is Haoda, but for his screens not for the adapters. The screens have the reputation to be working but cheap, and I personally read several Haoda customers who wanted to switch over to Katz EYe or other brands of screens.

The language is German, which doesn't leave much choices for the location: it will be either Germany, or Austria, or Switzerland, or Liechtentstein.

I hope this isn't against any rules, if it is then please remove the link.

This site is the best place to learn about adapters for MAF, there is not much about lenses but I think you should find all your adapter answers there:

Hopefully you will find one that works well.

That's great to know, you would be amazed at how petty some forums can be but this place seems nice and friendly which is why I joined in the first place.

joee, once you find one that works well can you let us know what the 7d is like with the older lenses, I was considering a 7d or 5d but never did get one and would love to see how it fairs.

We started this forum with Orio for that reason what your wrote. We don't like them at all.

I've been on quite a few photography forums and I can honestly say that this is the best for the reasons given above.

Suffice to say, this is now the only one of which I am a member.

Back to the topic..

I had the Dynax ('Maxxum' for our US friends.) 7D shortlisted when I was looking at DSLRs as I was impressed with the IQ of the DiMage 7i bridge camera and the 7D sample shots in the Minolta Club magazine.

Unfortunately, Konica-Minolta then pulled out of the photographic market and although I knew that Minolta glass had/has a good reputation I didn't want to have another possibly orphaned lens mount. At that time, no one really knew if Sony would continue the line so I went Canon.

That said, I still have and use my 7i....

I miss mine, I paid a fortune for it when they first came out years ago then it died on me but I've been looking at some of my pics taken with the 7i and the IQ still holds up well today.... maybe a visit to eBay is in order.

Anyway as for m42, the main reason I went Pentax instead of Minolta is that shake reduction doesn't work with manual lenses on MAF but does on Pentax which is nice and manual glass is more important to me than AF glass...
