Since I fall into the MF world, I've been acquiring some adapters to use my MF lenses with my EOS 350D camera. So far I got:

- 2 M42 to EOS adapters, no focus confirmation
- 1 M42 to EOS adapter, focus confirmation
- 1 Yashica/Contax to EOS adapter, no focus confirmation.
- 1 M42 to Minolta MD, no focus confirmation.

I've been trying to simplify my needs by buying only M42 glasses, but
I've seen some interensting lenses with M39 screw (I know there are two M39 "standards", one for rangefinders and another one for SLRs), and lately I've found some interesting ones but with "Kiev-10 Kiev-15 mount".

Could some kind soul tell me if this is the same than one of the above?.
I'm afraid that my photo backpack will be overloaded with thousands of adapters from now on...

Thanks in advance.
Best regards,
Jes.

Jes, the Kiev-10 and Kiev-15 are beautiful TTL reflex cameras with bayonet mount and I think (but I am not sure) that they feature the same mount as the Zeiss Contarex, therefore being compatible with the (super expensive) range of Contarex lenses.

I would like a confirmation from someone else on this Contarex point though. I remember this from a conversation I had in a used camera fair last April but I may remember wrongly.

(or was it the Contaflex? D*** memory)

Thanks, Orio!

I imagine that Contarex and Contax are not the same....

Older Nikkor lenses (before AI) are incredible cheap , cheaper than many M42 and they are very good lenses works perfect on your Canon.

Isn't the Kiev-4 to have the Nikon mount?
I am much confused.

Jes Contarex and Contaflex are model names produced by the brand Contax.

Hello,

Kiev camera were made in many configurations and kinds:
1. The Kiev rangefinders were copying the Contax rangefinders
2. The Kiev SLR had Nikon F mount
3. The Kiev 60 had Pentacon Six mount and had a very similar construction too (and Exacta 66)
4. The Kiev 80-88 were a copy of Hasselblad.

In these days I think there are still in production (or left on shelfs from old stock) .

Hi Montecarlo, thanks for answering,
So far what I've understood is that Kiev-10/Kiev-15 mounts are Nikon-F...
That opens a new (purchasing) world for me Wink
Best regards,
Jes.

Its lenses won't fit ANYTHING.

Rick, are you sure also for the Kiev-15?
Because many times I read of that "Kiev-Contax" mount.

The Kiev/Contax mount applies ONLY to:

Kiev II, IIa, III, IIIa, 4, 4a, 4m, 4am. Kiev 5, I believe, took the tele/wide bayonet of the Kiev/Contax mount but not the 50mm bayonet.

These are all rangefinder cameras, not SLRs, and there is no SLR that any of these lenses will fit.

I have not had a Kiev 10 or 15, but according to what I have seen the 10 and 15 share the same mount. From the photos in the above article, it is unlike any other SLR bayonet I have seen.

OK, thanks for clearing this out. The guy I talked to was evidently disinformed, or perhaps he made a mistake with the model names.

The name Contax has been used over and over again for completely different cameras, even made in different countries by different manufacturers, and of course with different and incompatible lens mounts... it can get very confusing. Among these are:

Contax II, III, IIa, IIIa rangefinders (same mount as Kiev above)
Contax S, D, F early-1950s SLR (M42 screw mount)
Kyocera "Contax" SLR (Contax/Yashica bayonet)
Contax G autofocus rangefinder (unique bayonet mount)
Contax P&S cameras (fixed mount lenses)

I understand there was also an autofocus Contax SLR bayonet; there was also an autofocus Contax SLR that accepted the C/Y bayonet and focused by moving the film plane.

There may have even been more besides these, that I am overlooking.... so you have to take great care in considering anything claiming to be a Contax mount lens!

This is the origin of my query:

Click here to see on Ebay

A nice Jupiter 9 lens, half of the normal eBay price...
It says "Kiev 10 15".

Best regards,
Jes.

Hello and sorry,

Mea culpa. The Kiev 10 and 15 have kiev bajonett mount NOT Nikon F. As I can see in the pictures, it seems that the lenses vor the Kiev bayonett don't have aperture ring ! http://www.collection-appareils.com/kiev/html/kiev_15.php
http://www.commiecameras.com/sov/35mmsinglelensreflexcameras/cameras/kiev/index.htm
The aperture is set from a dial button.
