These things are sharp and 3-d. I'm thinking there's been some modern post processing, but nevertheless I find many of these compelling

Yeah Shorpy is a great site. Just so we are clear, they are not strictly speaking old photos. They are digitally reworked old photos. It's even hard to tell what contributes more to the final image: photoshop wizardry or the original photo.

Me too, even PS'ed, historical value is found in these images.

I dont know what has been PS'd but the photos look clean and new. That aside, they are a lovely clear glimpse into the past. Beautiful.
