I bought today Asahi Pentax Spotmatic.
The cover of the battery compartment can not be unscrewеd.
How to clean properly the battery compartment area (inside and outside) from green-rusty oxide stains?
Without sandpaper please!
Exclamation Question

I would start off by soaking it in a solution containing baking soda. If necessary, follow up by soaking it in vinegar. Lastly, try using a good penetrant, like those that can be found in auto parts stores. None of these will harm the metal.

Also, you might try taking a small file to the rounded over edges of the coin slot, so that a coin will have a vertical lip to pry against.

Distilled vinegar on q-tip/earbud to wipe away -- let vinegar sit wet on corrosion for some minutes to dissolve before -- wash off vinegar with water afterward...

Use a #10 screwdriver for slotted screw cover -- much much better than big screwdriver, the small blade fits deep into cover slot, gives better grip for applying more torque.

Somebody knows of commercial products. Wink

Vinegar on Q Tip / cotton bud and let it soak. Then I use another Q Tip with water to rise it off. I find a coin fits the slot perfectly.
If that doesn't work, take the bottom plate off the camera, it's just 4 screws and the only thing to be be careful of is the tiny plastic button for the film rewind. With the bottom plate off you can soak the plate in vinegar.

It's already off, so immersion isn't a problem. That's what I'd do, really -- better chance of the liquid reaching every tiny crack and crevice.

You're right Rolling Eyes I'm not paying attention.

valjo, if it's corroded beyond repair I think I have a spare bottom plate.

Yes, slot is made for coin.

Tip: a #10 screwdriver gives a lot more torque than a coin because it sits deeper in the slot it grips better and doesn't "walk out" like the coin, which grips only a tiny bit of metal at the top ends of the slot. Wink Driver doesn't mar the slot in my experience with a few of these that weren't as corroded as this one.

Tip: neat wintergreen oil is in many commercial penetrating oils used for unlocking corroded parts, such as "Marvel Mystery Oil" -- it works great!

Tip: WD40 is for Water Dispersion, not for unlocking corroded parts. Wink

I have soaked the bottom plate in strong vinegar for 20 min.
Then brushed with a brush the affected area many times.
The green-rusty oxide stains were cleaned. The chrome coverage in this area fellt.
Then I washed off the vinegar and the dirt with water. Dreyed the plate with hot air.
Afterward I dropped plenty of brake fluid around the cap and I waited 15 minutes.
By an attempt to unscrew the cap with a large coin, that fits the slot, the battery compartment has separated himself, because the three small points of welding between the battery compartment and bottom plate did not last, because of the advanced corrosion and the finger power.
