Hello, what is the right way to clean this lens, especially the front lens:

I certainly wouldn't rub it until all the dirt has been removed from the surface. Personally, I would soak the surface of the lens with with a solvent, I would start with lens cleaning fluid and let it soak, then I would use a small artists paint brush soaked in fluid and gently work into the dirt. If lens fluid doesn't work then I would use alcohol \ lighter fluid.
But whatever I did I would use a very soft brush and use it gently. And lay the lens on its side so any liquid runs off the Len and not inside it.

First of all, your lens doesn't look really dirty as much as it just looks dusty. So I would begin by blowing off as much of the dust as I could with a blower brush and then I'd use the brush to lightly brush away as much of the rest of the dust as I could.

I don't know if I'd go to all the care that Lloyd would. Most coatings are tough enough to take a little rubbing. But with a lens like this -- and I've occasionally had them this dusty before -- next, after blowing off as much of the dust as I could, I'd take a soft sponge, saturated with plain old tap water, and gentle begin to wipe away any stuck-on dust particles. I wouldn't hesitate to allow water from the sponge to dribble onto the lens and maybe soak for a bit. Water is the universal solvent, after all. And I'd continue to wipe lightly at it. I wouldn't try to get every last trace of dirt off the lens if it didn't want to come loose, but I wouldn't hesitate to scrub away at the body of the lens with the sponge. Next I'd use a lens tissue soaked in either lens cleaning fluid or alcohol on the lens's glass surfaces and see if that removed any further traces of contaminant. I'd also use a cotton swab soaked in alcohol to clean any tight spots on the body of the lens.

Blow the dust off first with a very soft puffer brush in case there's any grit.
