Cleaning a Kiron ?

I got two Kiron lenses off CL, a 28/2 MC and 80-200/4.5 Macro with a zoomlock.

Both seem to be performing exceptionally well.

However, the wide lens has some visible oil on aperture blades (although it opens and closes freely) and the tele has 3 small dried oil spots on the inside of the front element.

How difficult is to disassemble the lens to clean ? Also, how difficult is it to completely strip lubricant & re-lube ? I'd start with tele.

It depends how experienced you are with disassembling lenses. In general zoom lenses are more difficult IMO than primes so I would suggest you start with the wide instead.

I assume that when you say they perform exceptionally well you mean optically, but mechanically they have issues (hence the desire to clean and re lube) to re lube I have used white lithium based grease in my lenses with very good results.

this might be helpful for you on the 28 mm

Thanks.

Neither lens have either optical or mechanical issues, however since I can see what looks like oil smear on wide lens diaphragm, and dried up oil drops on the back of the front element on tele, I want to know how to fix these issues if they become real issues. I am reasonably handy but I do need good directions before I do something stupid.

28/2 is easy to open, but it has floating elements, so care must be needed during dissasebly to be able to assemble the front lens group at the same distance from the aperture.
