Early Minolta lens, very compact (smaller and shorter than Canon 100mm ltm) and a stellar performer. Somewhat rare...

This is a well preserved copy. It will be a good companion to your Rokkor 45/2.8. Congrats

BTW, the data in Japanese Wiki mentioned it is a lens with 4 elements in 2 groups. However, from the photos from the lens, it seems it may be a Tessar...

Very nice, looks like my 85/2.8(8.5cm? I don't remember), I'll have to keep an eye out for it.
Also have the 50/2 & 50/1.8, I'm also looking at getting the 45/2.8

My instant reaction was also a Tessar, but I need to dig into that to be shure about the lens formula.

How do you feel about the 50/2 compared against the 50/1.8?

The Chiyoko Rokkor series are impressive lenses - inspiring quality for their age. I missed the opportunity to get a 50/2 and Model II-B - both in very good condition - for less than $100 because of an app-bug in the communication between me and the seller. Confused

I never really got a chance to get to know the f1.8 before I twisted on the focus ring too hard trying to remove a stuck LTM to M mount adapter and bent something, it is on the list to get fixed very soon.
I think the f1.8 has a more interesting bokeh then the f2.

Ok, nice if you can do a comparison when you get them up and running Smile

I will do that.
Till then, this is what I have online, all wide open, just test shots from my first walks with them.

Could be also a "simple" triplet (the Rokkors 4/100mm and 4/135mm for Minolta SR are triplets). The word "simple", though, may not be appropriate since at least the Rokkor 4/135mm contains rare earth (high refractive) glass. Minolta started melting their own glass around 1943, and their first Thorium & Lanthan glasses were made in 1952.

Nice write-up,

My 11cm F5.6 has 34mm filter threads, I have a Canon 34mm filter in it now. My Minolta Chiyoko 8.5cm F2.8 has 40mm filters.

Some shots on the Leica M9-

I also picked up a Minolta Chiyoko 13.5cm F4, alsohas 40mm filter threads.

beautiful lens and beautiful images!

So, it is a Protar-derived formula?

PostPosted: Tue Mar 17, 2020 8:00 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

It looks like a derivative of a Tessar.
Tessar:

Also looks like it's based on an Unar.
Unar:

If I had to bet, it's based directly off this lens:
Tele-Tessar:

BTW, one on ebay right now....
