The idea of paying 70 Euros for a Sony NEX battery made me feel a bit... idiot.
So, for the first time I decided to buy a non-genuine battery.

I ordered this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120815668278
It arrived within 3-4 days.
It works well with my NEX-5N and is 5 times cheaper.
It lasts at least as much as the original Sony battery.

thanks for the info - this is good news, that they work with the 2nd NEX generation, because as i understood Jesito, at generation 2, the cameras are reading the battery code and refuse to work with no names

Yes, good news indeed.

I have also ordered from another merchant.
They have not arrived yet. I will let you know.

Thanks for the info!

I was looking for a spare battery for my NEX-C3 and like you I didn't fancy expending so much. I'll order one an let everyone know if it works.

Regards!

I am happy to report that the second order arrived and the batteries work fine on the NEX-5N.
It is a great deal, 2 batteries and car charger for $24 !

My first impression is that these batteries last longer than the Sony genuine.

Good to know! Do you get any battery level info at all? I read that these non-brand batteries either show 100% or they drain (0%), which would make it difficult to guess the available capacity left...

Well, it seems to work.
I do not know how accurate it is. But it decreases smoothly.

Cool, thanks! Does the 1st battery from the 1st merchant behave like this, too?

Yes. It is the one I have tested more.

Confirmed: it works with the NEX-C3, and the battery level decreases with use. Thanks again for sharing!

There are three type of batteries for the NEX system:

1. The original Sony ones. They work in every NEX model.
2. The old (presumably non-chip) noname ones. They work in NEX-3 and NEX-5, but NOT in NEX-5N or NEX-7!!
3. The new (and still rare) noname ones. They also work in the new NEX models.

Two of my noname rechargeables (from Delamax and Prontar something) work fine in my NEX-7.
