This lens is with Praktica PB mount ..

Koji knows Smile he's got almost all PB lenses - we're both hunting for one which is missing in his collection - lol

This Vario-Prakticar is aka Vario-Pancolar.

It has own spirit - prices on ebay are now crazy for this lens - it has own unique character and spirit - images look like from 70's - not very sharp in the corners at f=35 - my copy at least
but total colour splash out and sharpness, let's say from f/4 onwards.

The bokeh is not the best but interesting effect can be seen - hexagon edges are curved at/4 or so -
this effect disappears at f8..

Very interesting lens - especially in macro mode - the pop up is can be noticed ..

I can imagine this lens with Praktica film camera and ORWO film loaded -- that would have to be a total vintage nirvana from DDR Smile!

Picture taken with EOS 5DMkII, PP Light Room -- little Photoshop

Very interesting description from pbase from our member Koji

I have never read it - I have never tried the C/Y Vario-Sonnar 35-70 but I would believe this:

This lens is almost comparably sharp as C/Y Vario-Sonnar 35-70/3.4, Vario Prakticar is better at corners
at 70mm end, at wide end Vario-Sonnar is sharper with slightly better contrast too. It is an amazing lens.
The Vario-Prakticar does it with 9 element 8 group, in which one is a flat glass, whereas Vario-Sonnar has
10 element 10 group, the both were introduced at mid 1980. They both conveniently have a macro mode.

That Trifox's quote still stands in my mind. The lens has quite good macro
mode too at the long end, better than at wide end such as vario-sonnar 35-70
from C/Y.

Anyway the first pic by Vario-Prakticar 35-70 is stunning. I am now in
California with my family so I cannot upload my damn photos to here,
it maybe a better thing for this lens. hehehe
