Im really in need of a sharp 35mm and was looking at the Zeiss Flek but before I pulled the trigger I wanted to ask is there a major difference between the (Zebra which is a heck of a lot cheaper) and the MC version of this popular lens, visually will it really make a difference?

I don't remember for zebra exactly, but before zebra lens has lot less contrast need to add contrast with software.

Zebra is only f/2.8, they didn't make f/2.8 version in MC.

I had it, it focuses a little closer than f/2.4 - to 18cm, mine had a slight contrast loss due to fogging of one of the elements, but it was very sharp and I used it for macro only. I can't comment on it's wide angle performance since on Nikon I used it (both 2.4 and 2.8 ) only for macro work. Didn't see any difference in favor of 2.4 version in this kind of use (considering that contrast issue was a sample issue with my 2.8 )

I think f2.8/35mm Flek is single coated and is older lens.
MC version is a bit faster at f2.4.
I have an f2.8 in silver and also had an MC version but I sold it last week (to get a Distagon Laughing ).
As you pointed out MC version is a lot more expensive but is also better in my opinion. Good colour saturation, contrast and less prone to flare. Both are reasonably sharp.
I miss my MC version. Sad

Cheers
Ed

I have both, but my MC has recently developed an aperture issue, I have not compared them back to back. But the general rule between MC and zebra is Zebra are made of lightweight aluminium they are easily damaged more so that the later black version.
