Canon FD 300mm f5.6 dissassemble?

Just acquired one of these cheaply. Later type mount, figured out it is working once I got the adapter on. But pervasive fungus through the lens. Plastic focus sleeve, internal focussing, no obvious joint or screws - any insight on how to get at the rear optics in particular appreciated.

UPDATE just figured the hole in the hood is an access hole to get at three grub screws to detach the front end. The front end is a unit holding three elements. To unscrew it once I had slackened the grub screws I used my dremel to make two slots for my lens spanner, because the hood gets in the way of gripping it effectively.

Hi Markus,

I got two of them with the same problem: aperture doesn't work properly, it seems fixed at around f/5.6.
I opened one of them by the mount side, it's easy. I was able to remove the aperture long levers but I didn't see where the failure is.
I also noticed the hole in the hood, but didn't see the screw heads. Are them visible with the hood extended?.

Regards,
Jes.

Jesito you have to pull the hood back about a cm - seek and you shall find Smile
As far as the aperture goes, when not mounted or attached to an adapter like my M4/3 to cfd the aperture is closed down and rotating the aperture ring does nothing. With the adapter on the iris opens and closes normally with the rotation of the aperture ring. The adapter needs a lever to push the triangular aperture lever on the mount. Actually my adapter mounts on this more easily than on some other cfd lenses I have had with the older "2 ring" mount.

I had a go at the mount. 3 small screws to take off the top silver rim, then the inner assembly can be winkled out - two long aperture lever connections to pull past baffles etc. The I spent an hour and a half figuring out if it would go back together again and work - it did eventually.
I'll proceed further next time.

Thanks for the info. Yes, I try it mounted on a NX adapter, so the aperture should work (and doesn't).
I also disassembled the mount and remounted it. It took me a lot of tries, but finally it was in place again... keeping the problem.
These days I'm doing some lens cleanup, I'll try again to see if I can understand how this lens works.

Kind regards.
Jes.

Thought I'd solicit some more input with a question posted in the FD club on Photo.net

Michael Broome replied with a SOOL assessment! IF 300's lenses need special tools etc to take apart. Sad
