Hi guys. Been getting into tinkering with camera equipment and recently found the above lens. I have found plenty of advice on the net about fixing the lens apart from how to get into the bit that holds the 2 rotating front lens elements together. I was wondering if anyone knows how to open it without breaking it.

Have you tried peeling back the rubber ring on the focusing collar? This is usually where the screws are located that secure the focusing helicals to the lens body. When you separate them, it's a good idea to mark in a nondescrpt area the point it which they disengage. It helps preserve infinity focus when reassembling them.

I've found that sometimes I haven't marked the pieces correctly, and when that happens, it's a matter of trial and error getting the helicals back where they should be -- so infinity lines up with the index mark. But this isnt that big of a deal, in case you miss. It just means you get to take a few tries at it before you hit on the right heical combination.

sorry for the delay in getting back. There is no small rubber ring on the small piece I took out of the lens casing as shown in the pics above.

You just carefully slip some tool under the retaining collar and pop it off. Small flat head screwdriver, plastic fork, toothpick - all will work.
