Here is another good lens from Canon, this lens is tiny. The original one was
dated probably before 1961, but it was a extraordinary popular lens since then.

see this > http://www.pbase.com/kkawakami/canon5018

@f? likely 5.6 with Bessa-R + Fuji Reala

@f? same as above This lens' drawing is not old-fashioned at all, IMO.

@f2 w M8 The lens is quite sharp.

@f2 w M8 at the same time

@f5.6 w M8 Trinity college in the morning

@f1.8 w M8 Fence and bokeh

@f2.8? w M8

@f4 w M8 Bull (re-submitted, but looks same as before)

@f2.8 w M8 Strange flower (I do not know its name)

This lens was probably made 1960+, but does not make photo DATED like 50/1.2L does occasionally.
With any Bessa camera, you have a nice and small package. But you have
hard time find an original hood (I do not have one), and a filter since filter thread diameter is 40mm.
You can find 40->40.5mm step up ring and hood for 40.5mm thread easily.

superb lens, superb samples & portraits
you make heavy compression on the jpg's, on the bull it is apparent (31kb)
rodagon have also 40.5mm, I use the fotodiox ring 40.5>52mm

Excellent performance from the little canon.
I love that you give us a new lens everyday.
Between you and Orio the RF forum is quickly filled with high quality content
Kudos to you both.

I like the way this lens looks and will search for a copy.
I'm watching a f1.4/50 canon now on ebay.
Mostly I'm curious how it will look compared to the Yashinon (old) and CV (new).
It is fun to play around with these old guys.
They really do still deliver. Yes it is quite Punchy.
I think a great lens for high ISO B+W (gritty)
Cool

@Carsten (?)
I mentioned my 50/1.8L page in Pbase, anyway here is 50/1.8L.

A hood is a bran new from an eBay seller (~$12), a filter in the right side is
UV/IR cut one (B&W made) for M8. The lens was $100 at eBay from japan, hardly used one. Smile

@poilu
Yes, 900 max pixcel size is a bit tight. You can see the same but large BULL in my 50/1.8L page. Very Happy

Sorry guys I do not live close to scenic places, mostly urban landscapes and flower shots.
Toronto is not so photogenic place. UUUGGGHHH

I have 50mm 1.8 FL and FD lenses with my Canon slr system which give very similar results to the rangefinder lens.

Does anyone know if they are basically the same lens, or are slr and rangefinder lenses completely different animals?

I doubt it, their register distances are fairly different. L-mount one is around 29mm
or so, whereas FD-mount one is 42mm. But they might have started FD 50mm lens
design based on 50mmL, which was a very popular lens. I do not know the truth,
although I have FD 50/1.8 too, which was hardly used so far. One sure thing is that
CANON made and still makes very good 50mm F1.8 lens, the current offering for EOS
series is mechanically no so good.

Oh forgot to say, welcome to MFlenses.
