On many occasions it is a blessing to have a 17mm tilt-shift lens.
Or shall I say THE 17mm tilt-shift, since there is no competition.
Of course it is ultra-expensive.
However, it has fulfilled my high expectations.

These photos are all handheld at f/9. The lens was at least 6mm shifted.
It is better to use a tripod with this lens.
Even a tiny move can have a dramatic effect.

This is the old city of Xanthi, in north-east Greece. It has its very own color.

This is a flare-resistance test. Impressive result, I think.

Wow, I'm stunned. I didn't think Canon was able to make a wide angle this good. Shocked

Many thanks for sharing! Rare opportunity to see pictures taken with this lens.

Orio, yes, I've seen charts and I've seen sample photos, and they all scream, this lens is superb.

The only thing (besides price) that's keeping me slightly reserved is the utter inability for the lens to take filters due to the huge protruding front element. I wonder if I should get the 24mm F4IIL instead, which arguably is even better.

However, seeing what the 17mm can do because of that extra 7mm like these pictures.... dayum. I think it just has to be the 17mm.

I mean, the other Canon wides that I saw were crap.
Hence my surprise.
It's like if all of a sudden Kevin Costner made a movie in which he showed he could act. Laughing

I also had a difficulty to choose between the 17mm and the 24mm.
Well, it is simple: 1.4X + 17mm = 24mm Smile
Optically they are both very very good.
And the shots above cannot be taken with a 24mm.
Even with the 17mm I could not cover the whole building.
I am happy I chose the 17mm (my bank account is not).

The only problem is that huge, unprotected, front element and the even bigger lens cap.
You need a suitcase to carry this lens Sad
