Is it really an APO or is it just the box?
Is it any good? Is there a good resource online for sigma old lenses?
TIA

I believe this is crap as almost all old Sigma lenses I bought a couple one for testing I found only one good... 400mm f5.6 gray color one.
This is older I am pretty sure none APO.

I believe there really is a Sigma 400/5.6 APO. There also is a non-APO version. I think the APO version goes for $400 ish.

I own a sigma 400mm f5.6. It has a grey colour almost white. A lot of these lenses seem to suffer from internal problems. The cement of the glaselements losens. Mine is in a reasonable condition. Focussing goes very easy with one finger. Mine has a minolta md mount and i use it on a olympus e510. I payed 80€ for it. It is not a great performer.
