That foam is expensive! I buy A4 sheets of closed cell 1.5mm sticky back foam for about 80 pence at Hobbycraft

and for another 80p I get the sticky back felt as well

one of these will cut the foam and felt into 1mm wide strips, much better than a scalpel because it doesn't drag.

And one of these will stop the cutter from making gouges in the antique dining table.

I've used these on many old film cameras now, it's cheap and effective.
