Ah the days of commuting - I have done it in several cities and they are all bad - London, Paris, New York, Los Angeles. At least in the first three there is a public transportation system available - LA is genuinely a nightmare. One of the major roads is 5 lanes in each direction and is clogged the entire 24/7 - average commute there (and you can only drive) is over 1 hour, almost regardless of where you live. Delays on the major arteries can often run more than 3 hours.
I remember when they started building the M25 - the promises were always unbelievable. Talk about "build it and they will drive on it".

The Isle of Man is worth a visit if you like to go fast - they don't have any speed limits out of town, even on small country roads etc. I've been over there with my motorbike and it's quite a revelation. _________________ Regards

One day I will tell you the story about what happened to me at Glasgow airport concerning a bowl of salty porridge. Not now, as I'm just off to band practice, but if you plead loudly enough while I'm out I might just put pen to paper later on. |

You guys are great! (I just realize that I miss my football friends in England - I played for an English site - this here reminds me of all the bosh we used to talk after a game in the pub. )

Well, at the moment I prefer Mortlach or Benriach.

If there is no conductor strike and no speed limit as often on our "Autobahn".

I left Heathrow airport at 8 pm and arrived in Maidstone at 4 am!
That was really bad, driving (or rather waiting) almost all through the night. Winter 1995/96 that was. And the guys in the radio making fun of us! _________________ There are two kinds of people in the world: those who divide the world into two kinds of people, and those who don’t.

Yip - snow would do me fine as well (as long as the roads are clear). My motorhome is winterised and would be a nice cosy base in those conditions. |
No such salubrious accomodation for me unless I count the Volkswagen Hilton as luxurious.... |
