my understanding is that the Biometar is the Jena designation for the Planar, which was invented in the 1890's but shelved in favor of the Sonnar until AR coatings came out (too many air-glass surfaces).

Hi people!

First visit for me after some time.

I agree almost completely with the list as far as the Nikkors are concerned (some very intelligent mentionings like the 55mm Micro f3,5!), and I would just like to add the 28mm AiS (the famous close-focus-version) and the 35mm F2 Ai(S). And I´d like confirm the quality of the 200mm F4 also for the pre-Ai-version (which already looks Ai-like and has a built-in lens hood).

And of course, count the 28mm F2,8 Mamiya/Sekor sx in. What a terrible gap...

Greetings
Benedikt

Is a supprisingly good lens...The samples on this site dont look good at all but then they they were taken WO and this lens is best stopped down to f4-f5.6...Heres some samples:
@f5.6:
http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/4160/sdim3164cst5.jpg
@f4:
http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/654/sdim3215cic9.jpg
@f4:
http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/2496/sdim3340cwx6.jpg
Its not too heavy, it has reasonable contrast, its well made and its bokeh is'nt too bad either...But the best bit is its low price, which will save you hundreds over the price of a used Nikon 135mm f2.
The only downside is that its not too hot WO.

The ones I have and like the most so far are listed below.

Pentax Super Takumar 28mm/3.5 (very sharp, saturated)
Pentax Super Takumar 35mm/3.5 (dreamy soft, saturated)
Pentax S-M-C Takumar 55mm/1.8 (fantastic, sharp... on of my favorites)
Pentax Super Takumar 135mm/3.5 (great feeling, I need to test more)

Carl Zeiss aus Jena Sonnar 135mm/3.5 (sharp and nice colours)

Helios 44-3 58mm/2 (good quality, preset Helios from BeLOMO)

Yashica ML 35mm/2.8
Yashica ML 50mm/2
(both of these MLs are sharp and very nice, the 50mm is increibly small)

Yashica DX 50mm/1.7
(M42 yashica, older and came with the J-7 SLR, it has personality for sure, see my black and white on TriX, heavy feeling)

Canon EF 50mm/1.8 II (AF, plastic, really cheap, but sharp and good images.. crappy manual focus ring though)

Don't you mean 3.5/135 (the zebra version)?

I have decided to concentrate on Pentax and Yashica from now on. My only problem at the moment is that me next DSLR will be a Pentax and there is no C/Y-adapter, but in the other hand I can keep my Canon EOS 350D and EOS 300V and my Yashica film-cameras. But thats in the future, when other bills are payed Wink
