As per the title, I have a 35mm FD TS that is in otherwise perfect condition. But, the shift screw is bent.
Anyone have any guidance on how to replace the screw? I probably won't be using the shift function very much, but it's putting pressure on the attachment arm (my own phrasing, no idea what the framing piece is called), which puts pressure on the mounting ring, making it difficult to mount, and also to rotate the lens.
There are three (Philips?) screws holding the attachment arm under the mounting ring, and it looks like if I removed them I could unscrew the screw, assuming it doesn't have any sort of final bolt on the hidden end, but I can't get to two of them with the screw in place, so that apparently isn't the way to go. Right now it's rather difficult to turn the screw in the "unscrewing direction", and i don't want to force it for fear of putting too much pressure on the attachment arm.
I got a good deal on the lens, so it would probably be worth it even to send it out for repair, if it's not an easy fix.
Sample shot from first outing with the lens, at f/2.8, moderate sharpening in post.

If that's the screw then it looks as though it is on a separate arm, which should come off ? _________________ LENSES & CAMERAS FOR SALE.....

The arm is some sort of bracket, through which the shift-screw is threaded, but it must go on first, because the middle and inner mini-screw holding the arm under the mount-ring are in-line with the shift screw, and can't be accessed while the shift-screw is on.
I also just realized that if i focus the lens down and move the rear element, I can see inside and there is a stopping-nut on the end of the shift-screw, so I guess I'd have to take apart the rear mount somehow to grab the stopping-nut.
It's looking like I'll have to forcibly unscrew the screw while torquing that bracket arm anyway.
thanks for the figure.

As usual look for it on ebay but I say you have better chances with a shop that would make one on a lathe. _________________ Moderator Himself |

I can probably get access to a couple of machine shops. It's taking apart the rear mount to extract the screw that I'm worried about. |

If you're prepared to have a new screw made, dremel the exposed section away to gain access to the screws. Just bind the lens up in electrical insulating tape and use a small abrasive wheel to cut the section away. _________________ LENSES & CAMERAS FOR SALE.....
