Not too common I think, and I can find no reference to it on this forum.
There are numerous examples showing 2.8/135 Mamiya/Sekor, but none that I can find for this lens.
Any experience?
Any knowledge of its history - ie did Mamiya make it or someone else.
Curious.
Thanks in advance
OH

I shall be testing the Tokina version later today. Very Happy but it's not my lens. Sad

Thank you Calvin for the link.
I replied to that thread, and completely forgot the similarities between that lens and mine.
@ Lloyd - I am looking forward to your images Lloyd - I will post some of my own when the lens arrives.

The Mamiya 50's are works of art IMHO.
I can see why you like them so much

Pictures as promised from the Tokina version of this lens. The pictures are resized but completely untouched otherwise, except for the obvious crops. All shot at 3.8 or 5.6. It is very good wide open - but even better one stop down.
Taken with Sony A600 at ISO 500 except the rusty machinery shot which was ISO1250.

This is wide open and focused on the middle of the cross.

Wide open again

There's some CA fringing on the right edge of the stonework, but it isn't bad.

Wide open.

It's a classic, a really good and useable lens.

That lens looks quite good. LLoyd: that first shot seems very sharp.

Nice performance! Is it M42? Oldhand, how does it compare to Takumars / K mount glass?

Thanks Mark.
Yes, M42.
I think that it will be similar to the Takumars.
I have a 3.5/135 Takumar pre-set which may be around the same vintage.
I'll give them a side by side comparison soon and we shall see how alike they are.
Cheers

I have just had a closer look at the images from the Takumar and the Mamiya. (very simple test nothing too scientific)
As I suspected, there is almost nothing in it.
Wide open the Takumar may have an ever so slight edge in sharpness to my eye, but by f8 the Mamiya edges slightly ahead.
Colour is similar as is OOF rendering.
Both are quite good really.
OH

Some images - both wide open then both @ f8
Takumar first then Mamiya each time

@ f3.5

@ f8

Thanks for the images Oldhand! Rendering is (at least for me) surprisingly similar, but maybe the Mamiya's bokeh a bit more pleasant. Have to try both! (Good excuse to buy them, isn't it? Smile)

I have just bought the Mamiya Sekor version of this, a nice mint cased copy, so it will be interesting to compare it to the hebTokina that I already have.
